Capacity Building
EDC HHD Asia fosters the development of civil society organizations (CSOs) throughout the region. Our role is to enable the growth of CSOs and the sector as a whole to become a more viable actor in the socio-economic development of its countries. Comprising diverse groups that act collectively around shared interests, purposes, and values, they include community, social, and advocacy groups; charities; business associations and trade unions; and non-governmental development, women’s, and faith-based organizations.
Capacity building happens on many levels. EDC HHD Asia provides training and support to the employees of civic organizations, including NGOs, non-profits, and foundations. We also work with local NGOs to provide technical assistance and expertise for development and project management.
- We implemented a series of workshops and trainings over a two-year period to 70 employees of Taiwanese NGOs, concentrating on the critical skills and techniques needed for monitoring and evaluation, professional communication, partnership formation, reporting, and proposal development. Additional workshops focused on NGO management, human resource management, financial management, fundraising, leadership, and resource mobilization.
- In Chiang Rai Province in northern Thailand, over 70 families – including 132 orphans and children – benefit from the Income Generation Activity (IGA) Project, with our local partner, the Association for Community and Ecology Development (ACED), and the guidance and assistance of EDC HHD Asia. In one of many projects making up our Deutsche Bank regional HIV/AIDS Program, beneficiaries received training and funding to promote income-generating activities, such as fruit and vegetable growing, animal husbandry, and production of organic fertilizers.
We aim to develop and strengthen local knowledge, skills, and resources by providing small grants, training, mentoring, and technical assistance to our partners. We work through accompaniment, a philosophy based on the quality of our relationships and the process of working together through community-driven, participatory, and mutually respectful partnerships.
