Livelihoods and Micro-entrepreneurship Development

Hewlett-Packard Learning Initiative for Entrepreneurs (HP LIFE)

EDC HHD Asia was selected by Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2008 to become a Center of Excellence (COE) in Asia-Pacific for the HP Learning Initiative for Entrepreneurs (HP LIFE). We were selected as COE in 2010 for the North America region as well. HP LIFE is a global training program for students, aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners who learn to establish and grow their businesses by harnessing the power of IT. As a COE, EDC manages and supports 48 Microenterprise Development Centers in countries as diverse as China, India, New Zealand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the U.S., among many others. EDC also organizes Training of Trainers workshops on the HP training curricula and conducts monitoring and evaluation for all Centers in the network. Through the program, nearly 10,000 entrepreneurs and youth throughout the region have received fundamental business and information technology training.

Community Enterprise Support Project:

With support from Hewlett-Packard, EDC HHD Asia is partnering with the Institute of Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Non-Formal and Informal Education Centers, and the College of Management at Mahidol University to provide small business owners and entrepreneurs with technical assistance, management advice, technology solutions, and information technology (IT) capacity building. Through the provision of IT, business trainings, and coaching, the project has empowered over 50 small businesses in Bangkok to expand their businesses and create economic growth in their communities.

Migrant Worker Capacity Building and Better Factory Project
EDC HHD Asia, together with adidas and the Foreign Capital Project Management Center (FCPMC), are piloting a project that aims to promote migrant labor well-being, resolve labor shortages, and reduce high turnover rates in Chinese factories. Since the start of the two-year pilot project, participating migrant workers have expressed overall satisfaction with the working conditions and environment in their factories of employment.
